Recommended it?
Yes
This is probably the best you can get without spending another two thousand dollars. Sony never does anything below top quality, and this TV is a great example of that. It's flat tube makes it crystal clear, with minimal annoying glare, yet makes it great for viewing from all different angles. But this new tube has one problem; it's weight. The 36XBR200 weighs in at about 220 pounds, much more than any other 36 in. TV on the market.
Picture Quality
If you have not seen a Sony Wega television, I recommend you see one, it will change your standards for TV, and the XBR is the best of the best when it comes to standard TVs. If you opt for HDTV quality, you should purchase the 36 in. XBR 200, because not only does it produce super clear picture that comes close to HDTV, it is HDTV ready, which means that if you purchase an HDTV receiver, and connect it to this TV, you will get HDTV. I would also like to add that this TV does not 'cut corners' as some of the cheaper, low-end televisions do, 'cut corners' are the corners of the TV, which is not shown, this can be a major annoyance for video game fans, as it may usually cut off the score, or something written on the corner. The beautiful picture is just half the reason to give this TV a good look.
Features and Options
According to me, Sony has the best on screen menus, and adjustment. Those little green lines are super accurate, and visually pleasing. You can control everything from what channels are which, how sharp the picture is, to the bass and treble on the TV speakers.
But with the XBR line, you get more features, the remote has a joystick rather than an up, down, left, right for menu navigation, and the remote has a little 'door' type thing which you can open to see even more buttons and features, one of them are a digital freeze feature that allows you to freeze the picture on the screen, this can be helpful for copying down words and addresses listed on the screen, to pausing a nice action scene. This probably is my favorite feature of the XBR. This TV does not sacrifice some features for others, as it also has PIP (picture in picture), and a quick access menu. Did I mention for all you audio/video fans, it has 4 A/V slots, so if you have a Playstatyion, DVD, VCR and a SEGA Dreamcast; you would be able to hook them all up simultaneously, and scroll through Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, and Video 4. Two of these A/V slots have S Video, which would allow you to connect your DVD or Playstation using an S-Video cable that increases picture quality compared to the usual Red, White and Yellow hook up.
Problems and Complaints
There are no problems with this TV, the price may be expensive, but it is definatlty worth it. I can't do a long term prediction, but for the year and a half I had it it worked well. Only complaint is when I bought it, and had to put it in my house, I needed 4 strong men to help me place it in my living room, bringing this TV up stairs can be hell, so when you buy, I strongly recommend that you have it delivered.
