Godzilla Television from Sony !

Pros GREAT Picture!!
Cons Need forklift to move, remote control is awkward
Recommended it? Yes
This review is based on my personal opinion and is intended to help potential buyers of this television.

I received this television as a gift. The size of the box the television came in is the size of a small apartment. It took four strong guys to lift this in the truck. After it arrived at my home, the unit has be taken out of the box because the box didn't fit through the door. The balance of the television is somewhat awkward, all the weight is in the front of the set. After getting the unit into its resting place, we hooked up all the 'toys' to it.

This TV is one of the best non-HDTV sets period! The screen is flat which means you can view at odd angles and still get a decent picture, this is achieved by curving the glass in the back rather than the front, this back-curve uses substantial amount of glass and is the cause of the huge weight of the unit. One of the best features of the unit is the Vertical Compression, this set will detect DVDs that use this format and auto-select the 16:9 mode... what does this all mean? it means that you will see maximum picture quality.. in fact, when in this mode, this set is near or at HDTV quality. I had a movie playing in this mode and when friends walked in.. they can't believe the picture quality.

Moving on to sound, this unit has great sound, I often use the internal speakers and use my amp only when watching DVDs.

This set comes with all the bells and whistles that you would expect. Not to mention that it has Component Video Inputs... Thereby giving your DVDs an even better look. I color balanced the set with the Video Essentials DVD and boy.. I have to say, I am very happy with the picture.

The remote that comes with the set is programmable and the basic functions are fairly simple to use, however, if you want the advance functions, the "flip up" portion is rather bulky and hard to use.

All in all, this television is by far the best picture on the market (besides HDTV) if you want the best picture and can afford this set, I highly recommend you (and 4 strong friends) run down to your local electronic shop and pick one up :)
