The Bottom Line:
This is what the open roads were meant for. Over 30 hours of your own mixes at your fingertips. This is a must for any MiniDisc lover.
I love MiniDiscs. I have always been one of those type of people that always loved creating custom mix-tapes. When I was younger I would spend hours working on the perfect mix-tapes for driving the open roads. When I purchased my first Mini Disc unit in 98 I found a new love. I loved being able to change my mixes at anytime. I loved the fact that it was a digital medium. I loved the ability to add text to each track and each disc. This (to me at least) was the dawn of a new way to approach the art of the mixtape. I created MiniDiscs for every occasion and every feeling. In 99 I decided to put it in my car. I bought a Sony MD Headunit and loved being able to take my mixes on the road with me. Life was grand. But then in 2002 I bought the Sony MZ-S1 Net MD recorder with MDLP. MDLP!!! 5 Hours on one disc. This is great. But none of my other MD gear was compatible. DAMN!
Last August I bought a new 03 Chevy Trailblazer. Instead of putting my old system in the new car I gave my old MD Head Unit and CD Changer to my friend. I then thought about what I should install in my new car so that I could get the benefits of MDLP. Should I get a new MD Head Unit with a new CD changer or a CD Head Unit with a MD Changer. After seeing the limited options of the MD Head Units available and realizing that the MD Head Units did not have a separate Subwoofer output I opted to get a CD Head Unit. I bought a Sony CDX-M850MP with the MDX-66XLP. I couldn't be happier. This changer is amazing. First off the sound quality is excellent. The functionality with the Head Unit is flawless. Song and disc titles come up quickly. The time it takes for the changer to change discs is lightning quick. Since the changer doesn't use magazines you can change 5 discs while the 6th still plays. Also since the player is so small I have seen people install it glove compartments and small storage spaces in thier cars.
Honestly this (along with XM Radio) is a music lovers wet dream. You can now take along over 30 hours of your own custom mixes on one 6 disc changer. I have turned on many friends to the benefits of MiniDiscs and MDLP. Now being able to have it wherever you roam, how can one go wrong?
