Could've been better but,... still very cool !
Overall, I'm happy with the Sony MEX-1HD. My main reasons for getting it were the look, the file navigation, skip protection, and how it displays lots of information on one screen. I had been looking at this unit in circuit city for quite some time. I noticed the insane price immediately which is... Read full review »
CD-text While Ripping
The recent introduction of car audio hard drives is welcome. I own a Sony Vaio PC and have my entire CD collection ripped to Sony's OpenMG (SonicStage) Digital Music Manager . I enjoy having a library of music on my PC and the thought of not having to carry a 100 or more CD's around in my car... Read full review »
Not perfect, but I still love it.
I too purchased the unit mainly because a friend got me a smoking deal. I was sick of moving my CD collection between my house and car, then having to choose which CD I wanted to listen to. The thought of some creep stealing my CD case was a little disturbing too. When I saw this unit, I fell in... Read full review »
Sony, WHY?
Why would Sony do a great thing and screw it all up??!! I bought this unit well below its suggested retail value because I have a friend that owns a shop. Needless to say, I had to have it. Do not get me wrong, what it does, it does well. It rips cd's to the hard drive at 8x speed. It plays the... Read full review »

You can store at least 225 of your cd's or about 2000 songs hi-quality mode (up to 6000 songs if set on lower quality mode) to the units internal... Read full review »

Too bad the color (blue) cannot be changed into red, I am thinking of changing my car instruments to blue now (i am a... Read full review »
Pass on this one
While I was initially impressed with what the unit was "supposed" to do, it hardly comes close to being worth the price tag or promise.
To start with, the initial price for $1500 should include more than the unit and a box. Adding a remote and memory card would be good for starters...
