Sony Webbie Stick Edition, not so cool after all!

Pros Small size. Low price. Expandable memory. Cables included. Removable battery.
Cons Poor resolution.  Uses memory sticks. No case. Difficult navigation.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Low price and acceptable resolution at 1080.  Quirky usability. Lots of cables included. Flexible due to memory stick and removable battery. The Mino HD does a better job overall.
I purchased the Webbie camera at a Sony style store. Considering the strength of the Sony brand I was expecting more from this product.  The staff noted that the webbie would not produce the same results as a high-end camera, but noted the results should be good enough for most purposes.  It is true that this camera records HD video but the 720p image is a bit pixellated compared to other brands and even the slightest camera movement produces choppy scenes.  The video resolution looks good at 1080p, but was not discernible from the 720 output of my MinoHD.  To my surprise the camera was a bit harder to operate than I expected and the usability was poor.  Specific examples include quirky navigation through the four-way stick and difficulties switching from 720 to 1080p modes.  The manual offered little help in learning how to switch between resolutions.  The biggest example of poor consumer design is that when you STOP recording, red letters appear across the screen that read, "Recording."  This message is confusing and makes you think you have NOT been recording up to this point.  I feel this is just sloppy.  I returned the camera to the store today after less than an hour's use.  With the tags still on and the camera in perfect condition I was charged a $25 restocking fee.  I was disappointed that I was penalized for purchasing a less than satisfactory product.  Despite my overall disappointment, the camera does have several positive attributes.  The first is that the camera has unlimited memory through the use of memory sticks.  While this is nice, memory sticks tend to be overpriced compared to SD cards.  Another positive attribute is that the camera comes with all the cables you need to hook it up to a wide variety of A/V items and has a removable battery.
