My Favorite Piece of Exercise Equipment
Pros
Small, lightweight, sounds great and doesn't "skip" during vigorous exercise
Cons
Arm strap must be purchased separately; I don't like the headphone that came with it
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Perfect for those who want a lightweight, portable device that provides above average sound quality and dependable function during high impact activities.
Nothing energizes an otherwise boring forty-five minutes on the treadmill like the driving beat of some jammin' tunes, and for me, Sony's MZ-N10 Personal MiniDisc Player has been the perfect way to provide that energy to many of my work-outs.
After researching numerous portable audio devices, I determined that an MD was the best option for my purposes and felt that the extra expense of this model would pay off in the long run. I have not been disappointed.
I'm FAR from being a technophile but found the included software fairly easy to load onto my computer, and the process of recording songs onto MDs is pretty simple.
This device seemingly does everything imaginable at the touch of sometimes several little buttons on the wired remote control. Reading the instruction manual is a MUST, considering the multiple functions and options. I find that I don't utilize all that this model has to offer, but I appreciate that the options are there... A really cool feature that I find myself using frequently during exercise is the one that allows the song speed to be increased or decreased. Volume adjustment is done from a convenient dial on the end of the remote.
Because I use the MD player outdoors while road walking and running, I replaced the headphone provided with lightweight earphones that allow me to hear on-coming traffic, ferocious dogs and the like, and an easy-to-touch button allows for skipping from song to song and navigating many of the other functions.
A battery charge lasts several hours and doesn't drain between uses, like my old DiscMan, which played barely three hours on a charge (or set of disposable batteries). I use mine 4 - 5 times per week on a single three-hour charge, and an indicator on the displays of the player and the remote tells you the remaining battery life.
Each MiniDisc is capable of holding lots of music (sometimes up to 30+ songs) depending on the quality of the recording selected.
I bought this player about a year ago and haven't regretted it. If you're interested in music "on the run", I couldn't recommend it more highly.
