Buy NOW; Save A Lot of Money- You Will Love It

byhwz1 Sep 26, 2000
Pros Remote control, save money if you buy now, great product, many different settings
Cons Energy conserving function is annoying
Recommended it? Yes
I recently moved into a new apartment and the building is quite old. Hence, the lack of a central air conditioning system. The building is right outside of Philadelphia and those of you who know the area know just how hot and humid the summers can be.

One of the first things I checked on was the air conditioning and whether or not a window unit was acceptable. Thankfully, the answer came back that yes they were acceptable and, in fact, they would be installed in all apartments by the end of the month. YAHOO!!!!

My expectations were low since I did not expect the rental company to spend a lot of money on air conditioning units for thousands of apartments. When I moved in I found out how wrong I was. I found that the company had installed two Kenmore 70106 units- one in the bedroom and one in the family room.

The units are large, powerful and fairly quiet. In other words, they do the job as it should be done. I have run the units for a while now and have never had a problem- yet another positive. Here is a look at the product:

THE UNIT:

* Window based unit
* Has remote control for easy operation (Or really lazy people)
* 10,000 BTU's
* Four way adjustable vents
* Three cooling speeds
* One fan speed
* An energy conservation control setting
* Temperature controls that narrow your choice down to the exact degree
* The remote includes all of the functions as well

My rental agency really set me up. I find that the low cool setting is usually enough to cool off a good sized family room, kitchen, and foyer. In fact, I basically have not used the high cool since I moved in. The biggest positive is the manner in which you control the temperature. Imagine never having to fumble around in the dark to turn the setting to a more comfortable level. A more comfortable setting that is undoubtably five degrees away from where you previously had the unit set. YAHOO! Suddenly, you can make the adjustment from 72 degrees to 74 degrees, rather than the more typical 70 to 75.

Another positive is the remote control. Ok, ok, I will admit that using it deems one "really, really, lazy", but for the occasional use it is a nice feature. Think of it this way; you are cuddled up on the couch with your significant other and one you gets cold. Simply use the remote and then you can spare getting up and then trying desparately to regain the comfortable position you had. Just a thought.

Complaints? I do have one, but it is not a big deal. The energy conserving setting tends to run for three minutes and then cut off for two seconds. Yes, I know this is what it is supposed to do, but the constant stopping and starting becomes annoying and cannot be good for the air conditioner.

I would strongly recommend the Kenmore 70106 to any one who is looking for an air conditioner for next summer. In addition to a great product, you will be able to save a few bucks since you are buying out of season and prior to the move to a new inventory.
