Not worth the trouble...get a regular CD-MP3 player instead..

Don't waste your time and money on this. It is an underground technology supported by tech-freaks. Get a regular CD-MP3 instead.
Me and my dad are music enthusiasts. I own an Aiwa MiniCD player that I love. It is small, plays 8 cm CD-Rs, and I can put about 3 hours of music in Mp3 format on each disc.
My dad liked it too but the other day he came to me with this new Sony MZ-N510, supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread.
The unit had it all; small, sleek silvery look, lots of extras (car kit, remote etc) and the possibility to re-record minidiscs that could store up to 320 minutes of CD-quality music.
However, I wasted about 8 hours to make this thing work (and I'm usually quite good with tech stuff, I can build PC's from scratch..).
First, I installed the provided softwares SoundStage and Simple Burner. Then I hooked the unit to my PC using the provided USB cable. First problem, the unit was UNDETECTED by my computer. I tried reinstalling the software, uninstalling my USB ports, trying different USB slots, calling the Sony "phone assistance", all to no results.
5 hours later my girlfirend came home and I showed her what was a minidisc and opened it. When I popped the disc back in, suddenly it stopped spinning and the unit was miraculously detected by my computer. I don't really know what happened, maybe a bad contact....now on with the best part, the recording!!
I tried the easiest thing to do, directly record a music CD from my computer to the MD player. I started this and at about 10% the player stopped recording and I got a "recording failure". I tried multiple ways to get it to work, tried 2 different recording softwares, no chance, nothing worked. After 4 more hours I had enough and quitted on that MD-player and in MD related stuff, IMO a technology destined to die in a few months (poor support from Sony here in Canada).
I'm packing the whole thing in it's box right now, and I will say that it is "defective" to the seller (it might be me that can't get it to work but I got better things to do with my life than spend a few other evenings trying to make it work) at the store. Since I can't get my money back I will get another CD-MP3 player instead, much more flexibility and proven technology that is bulletproof...
