Three letters... WOW
Pros
Small, 320 minutes on one mini-disk. Unbelievable battery life.
Cons
Could use a better remote.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want a good player that blows Mp3 players away, get a minidisc player. NetMD makes transfering music easier.
I've owned 1 mp3 player and a CD Walkman and this Minidisc blows it away.
Before buying this player/recorder I did A LOT of research on the Internet. This player is 1 of 4 NetMD players offered by Sony and is right in the middle of the product line. I think it is the best bang for the buck.

Size. This player is tiny! I own the first Creative Nomad Mp3 player and this thing is pretty much the same size. I just throw it into my pants pocket and don't even notice it.
Battery life. Why won't this battery die? On Sunday night, the little battery indicator had one bar left and was flashing. So I figured that I would leave it playing so that it would die and I could recharge the battery. 6 hours later the thing is still playing! I gave up, recharged it anyway and went to sleep.
Music. The amount of music that these things can hold is amazing. 320 minutes on one minidisc. That rocks! I bought a 5-pack of minidiscs when I bought the player and haven't been able to fill them all up with all of my CD's. Of course this is at the best compression because I want more music and not better sounding music. On my 64 Meg Mp3 I could only fit about 2 hours maximum of music. Minidiscs can take 5 hours and you can carry a ton of them with you! Did I mention that the minidiscs are re-recordable!?!
*Update* I wrote a couple of months ago that I was interested in carrying around as much music as possible with me and not worrying about quality. Well, that has changed. I've turned into a bit of an audiophile and sound quality is everything for me now. My minidisc player has scaled extremely well in this department. Sound quality is amazing, even though I don't have as much music per disc as I did before.
I could go on about what is good but I don't have all day to type this thing.

The OpenMG software that comes with all Sony Minidisc units isn't the greatest. It's slow and clunky but gets the job done. It should be noted that it takes a fair amount of time to convert your mp3's to the proprietary ATRAC3 format that the minidisc uses but I just queue up some mp3's to convert and leave my computer to do it's work.
OpenMG used to crash for me all of the time on Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. When I upgraded to Service Pack 3, the crashes went away.
Hardware wise my only gripe is that I would have liked a nicer remote with this unit. A remote with an LCD display would have made this player unstoppable... but I guess Sony has to make something appealing to it's highest end product to get people to buy it.
*Update* Another update. I found an LCD remote for my minidisc player and now I am all set. I bought a remote online from Minidisco.com and their service was superb. I think I got my remote 2 days after I ordered it. You can see it at: http://www.minidisco.com/minispecs/sonystickremote.html
