I run four miles every day, rain or shine. After the run I walk back to my house as a sort of cool down. I like to listen to music while I am running, and I like to listen on the long walk back too. My bedroom closet is filled with audio devices that I have purchased over the years that failed to live up to my needs.
I decided that I needed a player that weighed less than eight ounces Sony MZ-R70PC=5.4 ounces that would permit me to make my own recordings of song mixes Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty, Neil Young that inspired me to keep pushing. The Sony MZ-R70PC allows you to record from Computer, radio, tape deck, or CD. A player that could play for the entire two and a half to three hour circuit, the Sony has a newly designed re-chargeable battery that handles this requirement with ease. A gadget that wouldn't skip when the going got rough, I live out in the "toolies" and I run through woods, suburban subdivisions, farmland, and small towns. The Sony MZ-R70PC has a a forty second memory buffer that really does the job, no annoying skips when I jump logs and puddles. The final requirement was that the device cost no more than $300.00 (Sony MZ-R70PC $250) and that the music storage media be relatively inexpensive. Mini-Discs cost less than $3.00 each <70 minutes of recorded music>, compared to a 32mb memory card <60 minutes of recorded MP3 music> that costs about $80.00.
A couple of my more audio enabled buddies tell me the little Sony unit is not quite as good, sound quality wise, as an MP3 player or a Portable CD player. I haven't noticed, since my labored breathing, traffic sounds, and various other noise pollution sources intrude quite frequently. I like the Sony MZ-R70PC, and I think you will too.
