The Bottom Line:
If you love gaming, and you want a PS3, this is the system for you. It's cheap, it's fun, it's awesome.
I wanted a PlayStation 3 from the day that the thing was released. However, like most people, the humongous $599.00 price tag diverted me from buying it. All well and good, if you could afford it at the high price.
Then, we all heard that a new PS3 model was coming out. "Oh, God." I said, turning back to my Xbox 360. Then they dropped the bombshell.
"This new Playstation will be on retail for $299.00." Soon as I heard that, I had to have it. I would finally have the gaming console of my dreams! So, October last year, I purchased it! Yay! On to the review.
Pros:
It doesn't take up much space.
Unlike its clunky older brother, the new PS3 looks wonderful nestled into your entertainment system. It can stand up or lie down. It's not as heavy or as hipped as the original PS3, which reminded me of a George Foreman Grill.
Its new, sleek design.
No more naughty fingerprints! The PS3 slim has a sleek, matte finish, that, while easy to scar, will not leave or show fingerprints.
Now, one thing I'm not sure about is if it runs quieter than the original.
My only problem with this system?
IT'S NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE!
I mean, seriously! Isn't the purpose of getting a new console by the same company as the Playstation and Playstation 2, two huge mega hits in the world of gaming, to play their games?! But, no. Instead of being backwards compatible, we have the Playstation Network, where you can BUY PSX and PS2 games. Why, when we already have the game!?
Speaking of the Playstation Network, it's really good. Unlike Xbox Live, PSN membership is free. Some things on the PSN, like, games, wallpaper, and themes, are not free.
This is a great system for those who couldn't afford the original PS3 (like myself) and were just over joyed to see this breath of fresh air.
