Probably a reliable long-term investment

Pros Solidly built, has seperate analog outputs for each drawer.
Cons As far as I could tell, does not have synchro-record for external digital sources.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would buy it if--1. Current plans to block all digital copying of CDs don't go thru. 2. Synchro recording from external digital sources is possible.
After bad experiences with Philips, I liked this solid, simple machine. It makes great copies from one tray to the other. However, I tried digital copying of external sources & there didn't seem to be a synchro function (where the recording starts automatically when an input signal is detected). Due to my concerns about the possibility of all future CDs being encoded against any digital copying at all, I decided to forgo a CD recorder for now. I didn't keep it long enough to see if the synchro problem was real or just an error on my part. After dealing with feature-laden but unreliable Philips products, this machine was much easier on my nerves. 4X speed for copying an entire CD is a nice feature. Compilations/mixes can only be done at nl speed. Unless you demand that your changer & recorder be in one unit, take a look at this machine.
UPDATE--Sony has replaced this with a new model, don't know if it's out yet, but it's on Crutchfield's website. Also, Sony now has a combo DVD player-CD recorder. So maybe you can find this at a steep discount, since it's been replaced.
