Great CD player for the right price

Pros Great sound quality, 5-disc player great for long listen session.
Cons None.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great player, especially if you want to take advantage of the SACD format.
I have been living with an Optimus CD-3400 for about 5 years. Before you all start laughing at the Optimus label, it was an acclaimed CD player of its time. It beat out my modified Philips CD player hands down. Besides, it was cheap.

The reason I decided to purchase another CD player was because I really wanted a full size CD player instead of a portable. My budget was around $600. The reason I came up with this number is because I can't justify buying a CD player much higher than my monthly rent.

To be honest, I did not audition many CD players. I bought two Super Audio CDs (Miles Davis Kind of Blue, and Mahler Symphony No. 1 by NY Phil w/ L. Bernsterin) and went to the store to audition the C333ES player. Other units I listened to are Marantz CD-63SE and Sony CD777ES, both older generation players.

For the C333ES, the difference between the SACD and regular CD can be quite distinguishable. The regular CD pressing of the Kind of Blue is somehow brighter. The SACD version has a lot more detail, or what seems like. I was very pleased to find myself gasping for air at the end of a song, which I only found myself doing when listening to turntable records. I never get that feeling when listening to regular CDs. Anyhow, I'm trying to describe feelings not in concrete terms.

On regular CDs, it's equally amazing. I listened to Vangelis Blade Runner album and found its detail and depth, especially bass focus, to be very good.

The MSRP is $1200. I paid $600. For within the price range I can't think of any player that does as well. My player is not even fully burned in yet. I'm quite satisfied with it.

My setup is-

Jolida Sj202A integrated tube amp, with VHT EL34s
Harbeth LS 3/5a
Audioquest Ruby
