well what can i say, sony did it again although they co-developed this wonderful technology with i think philips. sacd is truly an awesome format ,the immense sampling frequency makes it about 6 times the resolution of current generation cd players(44khz).it is truly hard to put into words what this player can do and what it conveys to the listener, when i first heard it at a specialty audio shop. my jaws (as the cliche goes) literally dropped to the floor. i swear there was a percussionist inside or behind the left speaker. the warmth, detail of this machine is incredible.
my only complaint is lack of software support(as of this time) . build quality is top notch although the loading and unloading time is looooonnnng! about an average of 15 second when you're changing discs. still i wouldn't have anything else.i own a krell kav-250cd and i hardly even play it anymore, sony built the best cd player they can build for the roll out of their SACD format. and they did a darn fine job at it. sure $3500 is a lot of money for a cd player but if you love music....it's the best $3500 you'll ever spend. two thumbs up.
