I bought this model because it had the Smartfile on-screen display. I own the SLV-M21 model and I was thoroughly impressed with Sony's technology for easily storing and quickly retrieving your recordings. Once you have used this feature, you can't bear to be without it. I've owned the M11 for about two months and the M21 for about a year, and if they continue to operate without needing repair, I will continue to buy Sony's models that have the Smartfile display.
The SLF-M11 is very affordably priced at $249. Some features that I enjoy are the exceptional fast rewinds speeds, the automatic clock display, and the very good picture quality from recordings. A small demerit goes to the subtle whirring noise made by the heads in the unit when its on which I noticed on the first day but since then, I don't. I guess my previous older Sony model was not as loud.
I would recommend this unit to anybody who would pay $200 for a VCR. You should then add in another $50 worth for the Smartfile feature and you won't regret it. My strong confidence in Sony remains after all of these years of buying their products.
