The Bottom Line:
You can't go wrong if you are looking for an inexpensive HiFi VCR
After my Mitsubishi HSU-53 went to VCR heaven, I needed to get a 2nd Hi FI Vcr to dub tapes from my still alive Mitsubishi HSU-650. I chose the Sony because of the brand name and the $99 Price. I had purchased a Hi-Fi VCR from Philips which was horrible.
This Sony is a great VCR, especially for the price. I purchased it at Wal-Mart for $99.00 It has Front A-V Inputs, and the quickest rewind time I have ever seen on a VCR. It takes about a minute to rewind a T-120 tape. It includes a Time Remaining Counter as well. I don't know why all VCR's do not include this. The Philips did not. This allows you to know that there is enough tape to record the show you want to record.
It also comes with a Remote Control that operates my Panasonic Television.
The picture Quality is Excellent. Vastly superior to the Philips, and maybe a little sharper than my Mitsubishi!
The onscreen programming is a little harder than my HSU 650. You can not directly enter the time by pressing the numbers. You have to arrow up and down to get to the correct time.
The only gripes I have are that there is no indicator on the unit or switches for TV/VCR or SP/EP. You have to use the remote to switch these functions and look at the display on the TV for confirmation.
Please Note, this unit is actually a SLNV51, which is exactly like the SLNV50. Wal Mart has this model number so places like Best Buy do not have to price match it.
Non-Related Gripe. I chose to pick on Best Buy for a reason. After buying a computer monitor there that was dead out of the box, The Operations Manager told me that I had to send it to the manufacturer because I wasn't able to get to the store within 14 days. If you can find a product somewhere else, buy it from anywhere but Best Buy. When I told him that I had purchased about 5 computers there, and that this type of service would keep me from ever buying anything there again, the Operation Manager told me, "Well, you have to do what you have to do!!!!!!)
