The Bottom Line:
This is a quality VCR at a decent price. Yes, DVD is better, but we all still need VCR's - at least for now.
I try to buy all of my electronics from Sony, because generally they're of excellent quality. The Sony SLV-N50 doesn't disappoint in regards to that. We also have a Sony DVD player, so we didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a VCR, but we still wanted a decent player for our VHS tapes.
The most important feature for us - besides having a Hi-Fi, was Front RCA Inputs. If you don't have this feature on your VCR, get it! Not only does it give you a quick and easy hookup for video games, but you can also plug a camcorder right in without having to fool around in the back of your VCR.
The video and sound quality is probably as good as you're going to get with a VCR. It can't touch DVD, but it's still good. We were upgrading from an old mono VCR that had seen better days, so we were quite pleased.
Another neat feature is the Skip Search. You can skip right through commercials on a tape with just the touch of a button!
The remote control is nice, and even has a one-touch record button and a tape eject button. It can also be programmed to run your television.
My husband had no problems at all setting up this VCR, so setup doesn't seem to be a problem either.
