Recommended it? Yes
I bought this VCR yesterday, it was the cheapest Sony they had available. I only want a cheap VCR - why bother buying an $800 VCR when it still plays the same quality VHS tapes and will never match the quality of a DVD player?

The VCR hooked up very easily - I used the three RCA connectors instead of the standard cable because you get better quality. They weren't included, but you can buy them for $10 or less. I watched movies all last night - they were better than I had watched before. The VCR is very easy to use, the pause button does not leave streaks across the screen, and the play, stop, and forwarding buttons are very responsive. You can also move the video by one frame at a time in either direction. Standard on most VCRs these days, but still a nice feature. There are RCA inputs in the front and rear of the VCR - I hooked my N64 system up through the rear and left the front open for my camcorder (which is used less often). The included remote control allows you to switch between inputs very easily.

I hooked this VCR up to my new Sony WEGA TV (see my Epinion at:
http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-6136-36CC37EF-3A2655F4-prod3
) and the overall quality was spectacular. Originally, I had a cheaper TV slated for purchase and a more expensive VCR. Why bother doing that though? Buy the best TV you can, and get a good VCR such as this Sony one.

There isn't really too much to say about this VCR - it is cheap, easy to use, lightweight, good quality, and accessible. As VCRs go, this is probably the nicest one I have used, and by far the cheapest. If you are looking for something simple that works very nicely, I highly recommend this Sony SLV-N50.
