The Bottom Line:
This is the perfect VCR if want a durable, small and high-quality machine, but don't want to be paying big bucks.
If you are looking for a high-quality VCR for your basic video needs, but don?t want to be paying above $130, the Sony SLV-N50 is the perfect one for you. This well-rounded VCR has a number of great features and will work best if you just want to use it for basic videotape viewing and recording at home.
I just bought this VCR a few weeks ago and have been satisfied with it ever since. When I first plugged it in, in just moments, the VCR was able to find and set the correct time automatically?I didn?t even have to press any buttons or mess around with any settings. I?m not sure how the VCR is able to do this?I think it has something to do with finding a time signal from a local TV station. But what I do know is that never again will you have to see the annoying blinking ?12:00? whenever you lose power with this VCR.
The VCR is also very easy and convenient to use. I didn?t even have to refer to the instruction manual to set up recording shows at later times. The on screen displays are easy to read and aesthetically pleasing. There are many neat functions that come with the VCR, like commercial pass, slow speed, 2x speed, etc. Although a lot of VCRs also have these same functions, they are especially easy to use with the Sony SLV-N50 and its remote control. The remote control is also small and slender with buttons that press easily and smoothly.
The size and quietness of the VCR is a big plus. I was surprised at how small the VCR is compared to others I have seen on the market. Not only is it small, but it is also lightweight. I was able to carry the VCR walking half a mile home from the store. How quiet the VCR runs especially impresses me. The machine doesn?t make much mechanical noises whenever I fast forward, rewind, or stop the tape.
