Sony SLV-N750 VHS Cheaply Made - Poor Image Quality!

Pros Good Price, SONY Brand (which usually means superb quality!)
Cons Poorly Designed, Flimsy Plastic - TERRIBLE SUBSTANDARD IMAGE QUALITY!
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Don't purchase this model. Look into the JVC brands which still have the superior tracking/ recording heads. Or find studio grade models -- as quality's now lacking in consumer models.
My beloved older JVC VCR got dropped and died after wards, thrusting me suddenly into the market for a replacement VCR. What a shock note the severe drop in quality of most VCRs now sold!! Especially if you want to buy a stand alone model without a DVD. Having purchased and loved Sony products before both new, used and refurbished, it was dissappointing to see such poor workmanship and quality from the Sony SLV-N750 VCR. First off the picture as mentioned by others is horrible -- I immediately noticed the lack of clarity, brightness and contrast. All tapes tested (new and old) looked ghosted out with a slight white cast - this was not so with my old JVC model.

Also annoying was the cheap feel of the device overall, and delicate jack connections in the back. I thought the prong was going to break off in my hand the first time I inserted the connection cable!! It's absolutely flimsy and obvious will not hold up to average use. Gone are the days were the jacks and back panels are sturdy, made with metal facings/backings. Some of the current JVC models still have metal back panels. Additionally, I found the wide case somewhat annoying. What a waste of space! A more compact, stronger case would have been preferred. I found the tracking useless, an the tape counter of the SLV-N750 does not have second increments. And the remote did not seem well organized or intuitive to use. The "twist" style PLAY knob did not work well, and does not look like it will hold up over time.

I could have tried to live with some of the problems/flaws that others have described, but the poor image quality was the kicker - especially for a brand new device!! The poor image quality fore told an even dimmer future literally!!!

Sadly, I had not properly reviewed the this model prior to purchase. But with receipt in hand, I returned it very next day, informing the manager about the poor quality and workmanship. They tested it, made no further comment and refunded me in full.
