The Bottom Line:
This is a great cd player for the price.
I bought the Sony D-NE300 a few months ago after my Sony D-EJ100 started scraping my cd's and I needed MP3 cpaabilities, so I picked up this one. I really like Sony portable cd players because the sound quality is excellent, and there products have great durability. The only problem is I really am not a sony fan because almost all there products crap out on me even with careful use or go crazy on me. That is not the case with this model.
//sound// The sound is what really stands out on this player. The previous Sony ATRAC3 portable cd players had poor sound quality. Sony seemed to improve the sound quality this year alot. The bass is deep, and treble is clear. This cd player also can get very loud, but not as loud as the cheap durabrand cd players you can get at walmart.
//features// This cd player is loaded with features. It has repeat mode, shuffle, a timer so it will shut off after the time you set it for. I honestly tthink this feature is useless but I guess it is good for someone who ffalls asleep with there headphones on and doesn't want the player on all night. This cd player also has a feature called ALVS (auto volume limiting system) which is a good feature for parents who have kids who blast there music. This is a feature that will keep the volume low and will prevent the volume from going to high damaging the owners hearing. I don't use this feature because you would laugh at how low it is. This cd player also has a custom equalizer so you can tweak the low, mid, high frequencies. This cd player is MP3 compatible and supports ID3 tags.
//design// The design is not too bad, it's not as crazy as the other Sony portable cd players. The good thing about it is that it is not target and doesn't stand out too much where everyone will be staring at it. The player is round, about the size of a cd. The durability is great too since I've dropped it from pretty high up and it still works and did not even have a mark on it. The navagation buttons are easy to use too.
//software// It sucks. It comes with the Sonic Stage ATRAC3PLUS software which is a ccompression which lets you burn 490 songs on one cd, but the software is a pain to use and made my computer really slow. I just use my regular MP3 burning program, it works just as good but you can't put as many songs on one cd.
I have a had a few problems wwith player unfortunitly. It takes forever to change tracks on a MP3 cd, and sometimes the player freezes up and won't shut off and even opening the lid does not help because it still spins the cd you have to stop the disc manually because you either have to stop it that way or it will run forever, remove the disc, take out the batteries and put it back in and it works again. It's not a big deal but happens sometimes.
I highly reccomend this cd player to anyone.
