The Sony DVP-NS575P : DVD Quality on a Budget
A Little Background
I purchased this player along with a base model receiver, basic speakers, and fairly nice TV (that they actually paid for) as an early Christmas gift for the aunt and uncle. Last month during one of Texas' predictably unpredictable storms lightning...

Sony DVP-NS57P: Not bad for a low-priced player, but not problem-free, either.
When I purchased my Samsung LN-T2643H high definition TV in mid-January of 2008, I was faced with two non-critical and somewhat related questions about the analog TV I was replacing and whether or not I should get a new DVD player or not.
At first, the issue of what to do with the old TV...

A Good Entry Level DVD Player
The DVP-NS575P is Sony's entry-level DVD player. I'm not really a big movie guy, or a "home entertainment" nut for that matter. In fact, our living room is highlighted by a 13-year old 20 inch wide TV with a trusty pair of bunny ears on top. Thus, it didn't really made since to shell out big bucks... Read full review »
Surprises Galore! A DVD Player that delivers! Even for This Aged Amateur!
Sony DVP-NS575P CD/DVD Player
Note: The "/S" at the end of the official Model Number of this product seems to indicate the color of the case. Ours is Silver, the only other choice is black. We would have preferred black but our new TV is silver. So, AOK.
THE PROBLEM!

A Better DVD Player For Older, Used Discs
Well, I have learned a good lesson this year. Stay away from those ultra-compact DVD players that run 30 to 40 dollars. Unless your DVD's are in pristine condition, those players won't play older or more heavily used discs at all. I have seen the error messages "Unknown disc" and "Disc error" too... Read full review »
Shines on old NTSC TVs
For the executive summary, read only the bolded items.
This is my third player since 2006.
I own the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300S [reviewed on epinions] and Philips DVP642, all still work. However, they have quirks. Cyberhome won't play some of my burn-it myself DVDs, played scratched...

Cheap machine bad picture
The only redeeming quality of this player is its half-decent stereo imaging; this doesn't mean it SOUNDS good.
Picture quality through the upconversion is grainy and veiled. Color balance poor, green tint.
If you want a cheap machine because it's slim, it'll do. If you like good picture...

Stopped working after about a year
Unless you're looking for your DVD player to spell out the word CANNOT for every disc you put in, this may not be the machine for you. The picture and sound had been quite good for the price, but my intention wasn't to buy a living room DVD player annually, given how hard it is to get to the back... Read full review »
Great Entry Level DVD Player
First, I believe this model as of 2/2006 is discontinued, so you will probably only find it on eBay and the liquidators these days.
I got mine on eBay from a dealer who specializes in RMA's (customer returns) and who supposedly tests them fully before putting them up for auction, and who...

very disappointed in this DVD Player and Sony as well
I purchased the Sony DVP-NS575P DVD player about 3 weeks ago, which was my 3rd and 4th DVD player purchase in less than ONE month. In my learning process I found that there are several different types of DVD media and I specifically needed one that would play DVD+RW. So, after a long and exhausting... Read full review »
