You Gotta Have Patience

Pros fabulous sound, extreme durability, battery life
Cons Doesnt support MP3, software shenanigans
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I enjoy using it and would recommend it.
I had this unit for two years and its never let me down. This is my second Sony Minidisc and I've always had great experiences with them. The sound is perfect, the size is great (although it could use a belt clip). And its extremely durable. My two minidisc players took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. Also this unit comes with a radio/remote stick (but its not backlit, which sucks!)

Problems that I had was with the supported media. Since this doesn't support MP3 (due to Sony's insistence on protecting song media after the Napster era) you have to transfer your songs into Sony's OMG format using Sony's Sonicstage software. This can take a ton of time. If you've moved up in minidisc players to the HiMD, you'll need to update your songs again to the HiMD formats.

Also, you can only use Sonicstage software on one computer at a time, up to five systems in a lifetime. So be aware of how many times you install the software or else you'll be blocked from using the software, and ultimately you can't up/download into the player. Also after updates, sometimes the software won't read your OMG files or the minidisc player, so you may have to open/close the software a number of times before everything syncs. The last update, Sonicstage 3.4, actually worked fine. But that's after years of hassle with updates gone awry.

The other issue with Sonicstage are the OMG files themselves. What Sonicstage does is copy your MP3 into an OMG file. The OMG file has just about the same bytes as your MP3 so its like having two of the same file on your computer (if you suddenly use up a ton of hard drive space, this is probably why). If you've moved up to the HiMD, there's a chance that there are two OMG files for every song (one for the MD, one for the HiMD).

If you're an iPod hater or a quality lover or someone who wants a unique product, then this minidisc is for you. But patience is key. It takes a little more time than other products.
