Great Price- Good Player - Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player

Pros affordable, sleek, quaility sound and picture, easy to use, easy to set up
Cons trouble finding eject button, remote not backlit, no sleep timer
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player is an inexpensive, good quality DVD player that is easy to use and set up.

Two years ago the DVD player that came with our surround sound died. I wanted a new DVD player but decided to wait until black Friday to see what deals I could get on a DVD player. Wal-Mart had the Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player on sale for $30.00. I didn’t want anything fancy, I just wanted a DVD player that I could play a movie on whenever I wanted to. I also wanted a brand that I knew and trusted and Sony is definitely a company I have purchased items from before and have enjoyed them.

The Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player is a black 480p DVD with basic features. The Sony DVD Player is sleek and slender. It measures 9.5 x 11.6 x 1.1 and weighs about two pounds. It fits nicely and blends well on my entertainment center. It plays all standard DVD formats, CD’s, MP3 and JPG files. It is a single disc player. It comes with a remote and 2 AA batteries. It has progressive scan and is a Dolby digital decoder.

The DVP-SR200P was easy to set up. This again is my husband’s job and he had the job completed in less than ten minutes.

The picture clarity is great, the sound quality is good and the remote is easy to use.  The remote is a multi-brand TV remote control. We have only used the remote on the DVD player.

Some features of the Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player include Bilingual Carton Design (English and Spanish), Bilingual Instruction Manual for basic set-up and operation (English and Spanish), DVD-RW (Video & VR mode) DVD-R/DVD RW/DVD R Playback1, 12 Bit Video DAC with 108Mhz Processing, Fast/Slow Playback with Sound, Dolby Digital Decoding Compatible, 192 KHz/16bit Audio DAC/96KHz/24bit Digital Out, Coaxial Digital Output, TV Virtual Sound, Video Equalizer, Picture Navigation and Instant Replay/Advance.

You can operate the DVD Player with the remote or there are buttons on the front of the DVD Player. We prefer to use the remote as there are more functions on the remote then there are directly on the DVD Player. The menu settings are easy to use and read.

The Sony DVD Player is easy to use. You just turn the player on, open the DVD tray, place the movie in and it starts to play. You can fast forward, rewind, and you can stop and restart a movie where you had originally stopped it.

We have never used the DVD Player for anything other than to watch DVD’s so I cannot comment on the functionality of the other features such as playing CD’s or viewing JPG files.

One  problem I had with the DVD Player was with the remote and figuring out how to eject the DVD. The eject button is at the top of the remote. There are three buttons and the button on the left of the remote is the  eject button but it is not marked such. This was a minor issue but it did take me some time to figure it out. Another problem I have with the remote is that it is not backlit. Again a minor problem but it would be nice if it had that feature.

My boys also wish that it has a sleep function as they often watch a movie to fall asleep. This is not a problem for me as I watch a movie to see the movie, not to go to sleep but I guess it would be nice to have this for those that require such a feature.

The Sony's DVP-SR200P is a very affordable DVD player. It has many features but is inexpensive. I paid thirty dollars on black Friday but see they still sell the Sony DVD Player online and in stores for less than fifty dollars.

I think the Sony's DVP-SR200P DVD Player would make a great gift. This would make a great Christmas present. It is an attractive unit that can be placed in a living room or a bedroom. Actually you could put it in any room you desire. The Sony's DVP-SR200P would also make a nice housewarming gift or wedding present.

We have had our DVP-SR200P for almost two years and have not had any issues. The Sony DVD Player does come with a one year limited warranty we did not have to use.

We love that the DVP-SR200P is sleek and lightweight. You barely even notice it sitting on our entertainment center. It was also an added plus that it was easy to install and use. Everyone in our home can use the DVD and remote without issues. It’s also important that the sound and quality are good. So for the price, I think we got a good  DVD player that meets our needs.

We use our DVP-SR200P at least once a week, sometimes two or three times a week during the winter months. So it does get used quite frequently and knock on wood, we haven’t had any issues with it.

So if you are looking for a new DVD player that is inexpensive but does a good job, we would recommend the Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player.
