Bad Warranty CD Drive will malfunction

Bought the unit. Disappointed that it would only play mp3's that are created by the software that comes with the unit. That meant I had to convert existing mp3's to the ATRAC version. But I got over that. 6 months after buying the product the CD drive stop spinning and I got the error "No Disc" when putting a brand new commercial cd into the drive. Stuff happens so I called the warranty department at Sony. Labor warranty runs out at 90days. Parts 1 year. Can't get parts without labor. They wanted $32 to exchange a product six months after I bought it (30% of the retail price and twice that to get it repaired). That doesn't sound like a warranty, sounds like they are selling me a refurbished-used product. I found where Sony is being Class action sued over their DVD Players, that experience the same problems as my BoomBox. The technology is very similar as far as load mechanisms and drive motors so it would be a good assumption that Sony probably has this problem with all of their clam shell laser drives. Stay clear without an extended warranty.
