Over older models - Improved, but not quite right!
Pros
Improved dynamic sound almost overcomes setbacks.
Cons
Wabbly softer plastic, more weight, odd feel and loose.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this unit for its sound, and suggest you keep looking if you are one for jogging or vigor in your work out!
Perplexed The HM33 has a 3 star review average and Sony should have tested better ... read on. A shame given its improvements!
I have had two older models of this head set, and I must first admit - WOW compared to the two prior Sony models! But, all is not right, in fact some things seem quite odd about the improvements.
The prior model had button pre-sets, easier to manipulate while walking and using ... This model requires it seems to take it off and think. I do not want to think on my radio, I want to walk and use it ... A no thinking required model is what I want.
The plastic seem limber, in fact too much so. But not being an engineer at Sony, I am not sure of reasons for this. Also the weight is a bit more than prior models - not by much, but noticeable, making it a less secure feeling on head. With the limber plastic and weight added, it does not want to set still. Thus I agree with another reviewer that this model WILL NOT DO FOR AEROBIC MOVEMENT EXERCISE!

After initial reading and set up, you can select a number of pre-sets - 20 I think. In the Louisville, Kentucky area I would have to include all the country, soul, and jazz and new age and all of it to use 20 pre-sets, so this is more than I need, but likely good for someone in say Tokyo.
Oh, - humor - Sony - Tokyo.
Sound
Here is where the flaws are mooted a bit. This model is hands and toes above prior models! The Mega Bass and larger earphones are superior, and I think for normal walking type exercise at a brisk pace, but not jogging, this model will find those who love it! So this is the WOW factor. In fact, it sounds more like listening to a real stereo system headphones, even though this is air-wave radio and not my CD player. Nice job here Sony!
Final flaw
Clamp factor. The fact that the plastic is so limber makes the set feel too loose for the weight. This gives a feeling that it will come off, and needs to be tighter, but perhaps since I have owned prior stiffer models I am not used to this insecurity ? Will I ever be?
Range
The Bass is astounding for a headset radio. I have not gotten this good from any belt side mount set. I would have loved a way to set treble and so forth...but then the price is around $35 for HM33 and likely this improvement would cost a lot.
Buyer?
Yes I recommend, if you are a walker and are not planning a lot of bouncing and jogging about or side to side movements. The only improvements are in sound, not the use of pre-sets or the stability - these factors are negatively impacted. So this type head set has gone one giant step forward, and two giant steps back! Hard to do!
I guess the key word here that I must relay is this is a Walkman series ... and in fairness to Sony think about that series. It is not called basketballman, or jogman, or skiman, or climberman, and does all the man series offend our women athlets? Another topic ... write Sony if it does.
Why not Walkwoman? or Walkperson?
