Great on-the-go radio!

Pros Excellent sound, key-press lock, belt clip, digital tuning & clock, great size
Cons No back-light
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Best unit of its class I've found. Intelligent design, convenient features, easy to use, great reception.
Looking very much like a mini SONY CD player, this AM/FM/FM-Stereo radio is a great fit for folks who need radio "to go".

This receiver is smaller than a pack of cigarettes (3 1/8' x 2 7/8" x ~1"), requires two AAA batteries (alkaline for best performance of course. Don't even think about using NiCads!) and weighs only 4 ounces (114 g).

The belt clip is GOOD, not flimsy, and loves waistbands of workout clothes as much as it loves dress belts for commuter attire. (One reason I bought this unit was the belt clip... my previous radio made by Aiwa, had a belt "loop" instead of a clip, which required 1) a belt, and 2) that the belt be threaded every time. Forget that!)

15 memories (10 FM in two groups of 5 each), and 5 AM. Should be enough to keep most people happy. Tuning is via an Up/Down control. Since most users will find and preset their stations into memory, never having to worry about it again, this is not a big hassle. There is also a digital clock which shares the display. When the unit it off, time is shown. When on, the frequency is displayed. To view time while listening, press the "clock" button, and time will display for about 3-4 seconds and revert to freq.

Another feature that makes this unit so great is the "hold" button, which prevents accidental power on/off or frequency changes. It is one thing to have convenient "feather-touch" controls, but when you repeatedly find that your batteries are dead because the unit switched itself on in your luggage, the cost-saving value of this feature alone becomes quickly obvious.

Comes with lightweight adjustable stereo headphones with enough cord to make it from belt to your head and then some. I average about a months' worth of listening on a pair of batteries, commuting to work and from work by train an hour each way, 5 days a week.

There's a Local/DX switch to adjust the sensitivity... I took the unit camping, and it performed well enough, but that's where the lack of backlight came in. If you're not on your preprogrammed stations, and want to see/keep track of the freqs, you need external light. Probably N/A for most folks.

Bonus! When the batteries are low, all reception is cut off (instead of fading gradually), BUT some energy is saved for memory. In this state, memory will remain intact for several weeks. When you're ready to change the batteries, if you can do it in less than 30 seconds, the freqs in memory remain in place! Saves on re-programming.

Comes with one year limited warranty.
