Sounds Good for the SIZE, but NOT for the price
Pros
Super compact, battery power option, nicely made.
Cons
Sound quality unacceptably poor for a $40 speaker system -and these cost $90!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
For the price, the sound is disappointing. If you can't pack anything bigger, these are better than nothing, but get 'em cheap.
I have been interested in getting some good quality travel speakers.
I currently use my Cyber Acoustics CA-3001's for this purpose. Sound quality of this PC speaker set is amazing for the size, unbelievable for the price, and even with size and price not considered, really quite good. But the set (though tiny for a 3-piece PC speaker set) is somewhat bulky when trying to pack it into an overnight case.
Thus I was very intrigued when I saw the SRS-T77 at Fry's.
Although I can agree with the other reviewers that they sound very good for their size, I don't find the sound quality acceptable.
Although very compact, sleek, and impressive in appearance, the sound quality is about on par with a $25 pair of PC speakers -but this set cost $90.
The sound quality of this $90 speaker set does not begin to compare with that from my $18 CA-3001's. The CA-3001's could be playing in a room when you walk in, and you'd assume a fullsize, good quality stereo set is playing. The Sony's immediately sound like a clock-radio.
The presence is excellent, the highs are crisp and very clean; volume is surprising. Bass however, is virtually nonexistent; and the upper midrange has that "thin" quality that makes it sound like a clock-radio.
The case is nicely designed, fit and finish is excellent. The swiveling speakers and the swing out stand feel substantial and well made; and they operate smoothly.
The fact that it can be battery powered, or powered from an AC adapter (included) is very nice. It is often difficult to get to the AC outlet in a hotel room -not having to do so is a nice feature of the battery option.
But speakers are about the sound, and these don't sound good. I returned them.
