clean power

Pros clean power, solid, reliable unit with power to spare
Cons clunky and heavy remote looks like an art project
Recommended it? Yes
This unit delivers! I would suggest anyone looking for a Dolby Digital Receiver in a mid-price range grab one of these.
I tested several models and yes this one runs a little hot, but it was cool compared to several other machines like the Akai and Pioneer. Paying the extra for the Sony ES series is worth it.
The sound is clean and there is plenty of power to spare. I am running mine in a surround configuration with a Velodyne 1200 sub, Mirage 190i (rear), B&W 804 Matrix (front) and a generic Mirage in the centre. You cannot push this unit into clipping. It handles anything on my A120 Panasonic DVD player without any problems.
Yes, the Receiver heats up a bit but it has never been a problem (except the cat likes to sleep on it after I shut the unit off.)
The Receiver also looks great and feels solid. I have used other receivers where the inputs are a little shaky. Not so with this Sony. Lots of inputs available with digital and co-axial connections available for DVD.
Lots of features and all relatively easy to use. Some of the surround features are silly but you expect that with an effects receiver. Good instructions included.
The only downside is the remote. Originally I liked it but after using it awhile I find it too fussy and heavy. I would have preferred something a little lighter and simpler. Its too clunky. It also has a single button shutoff which I have mistakenly hit repeatedly. . .hate when that happens!
