The Bottom Line:
Superb sound and performance, what more can you ask?
Where can I start. This ES receiver delivers superb sound and excellent performance. It is powerful and very versatile. For audiophiles who doesn't need component switching and 110 watts per channel can do it, this is your perfect receiver.
From the looks of the receiver is simple and well constructed. It may not look like cinderella but it sure performs all its functions well. Its complete with Dolby Digital and DTS encoding. Its Virtual Matrix 6.1 delivers what its supppose to be. I used the Virtual Matrix 6.1 while watching the movie "Gladiator", man, it sounds awesome. This receiver is definitely best partnered with a DVD player.
The remote is very good. At times, it functions somewhat slow but its not much of a problem. It looks like a cell phone and for me, it fun to use. Another minor problem I found with this system is the volume control. Its somewhat very touchy. By using the remote, I needed to hit the volume control very lightly because the sound suddenly increases then decreases. Its somewhat difficult to describe here but this is not much a problem for me. This maybe a problem for most audiophiles and I felt I should mention this.
For me, performance is the most important thing regarding audio and video components. This machine will be reliable, durable and its performance shall be flawless for the years to come. I bought this receiver january of 2001 and with proper use, I had no problems. I bought this receiver at Goodguys and I'm 25 years old. This is my second receiver and I don't think I'll be replacing this receiver until I reach 40. Thanks SONY for this receiver.
