Technically solid but terrible user interface

Pros Built-in high and low pass outputs, 52 watts x 4, auto display dimmer, removable face-plate.
Cons Major functions only in the remote, tiny buttons on the face-plate, unreadable clock.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I do not recommend this product because of its great difficulty of use. Spend the extra and buy an additional amplifier with a crossover for sound frequency separation.
This head unit has a major advantage in allowing a crossover function (high pass and low pass frequency output) to reside within itself, thereby allowing good sound separation for your lows, mids and highs without having to buy an additional amplifier with a built-in crossover or an entirely separate crossover unit.

This model, however, relies on a very patient user to become acquainted with and master the controls because all of the important functions are in the card commander remote control which you have to reach for while driving and manipulate with difficulty because of its dimensions while looking at the display to ensure you're adjusting the correct thing, making sure that you do it quickly enough because after 3 seconds the option disappears. Come on, this is MOBILE audio - even the much-maligned wireless phones don't require nearly as much distraction from your driving.

The buttons on the face plate are the tiniest that I have ever seen on any car deck, and to read the label on the one you want to adjust requires more eyes-away-from-the-road time.

My biggest beef with the difficulty of using this unit is this - would it have killed Sony to make the clock digits just large enough so we could squint to read it? As it is, the size of the clock digits is so tiny that again you have to look away from the road for a long time to be able to make out what time it is. For those familiar with optical accommodation, you know what I mean. Considering that I glance at the head unit while driving only to see the time, installing this deck was a mistake. I would have been better of with my former JVC with more usable controls and a clock that filled up the display.
