Not bad

Pros Good sound, small and sleek, great EQ, powerful sound output.
Cons Buttons unclearly labelled. WAY too bright. Security beep is annoying.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Good player for the money.
I got this CD player unexpectedly at ABC Warehouse to replace a (different) one that was draining my car battery (they couldn't fix it, so I bought a new one.) My budget was small, and this was the only player they had for around $100. I trust Sony products, so I gave it a shot.

It's got great sound. At 52x4 watts, it's powerful too. The built-in EQ presets (especially the Sony Xplod setting) are nicely tuned, and easy to set. The balance and fade options are also simple to access and use while driving.

The actual interface of the player has both it's good and bad points. While the volume and track skip buttons are easy to access on the sides of the unit, the radio preset buttons are in a long row on the bottom of the player, level with the rest of it, and are the same as a few other settings buttons (display, etc.) So you'll often be trying to choose a radio station, only to hit the ATT button instead. Likewise, the Source, Off, and EQ buttons are all identical.

Speaking of the ATT button... it, along with the mysteriously-named BTM and STL buttons, are awful. I still don't remember what BTM and STL do. ATT is a nice feature: hit the button, and the sound becomes *almost* muted - great for quick volume reduction in the case of a phone call or road distraction. Why Sony decided to give this function a fancy name and abbreviation is beyond me however, as these abbreviations only make the CD player more confusing for others in the car to use.

Another annoying physical feature of this unit is the bright blue display. Though it is nice during the daytime, at night it will light up your entire car. There is no way to dim it, either, so you're stuck with it unless you remove the entire faceplate (thus rendering the unit silent.) Also, I cannot figure out how to get the unit to just display the time while it is off. Instead, it scrolls and blinks the functions of the player on the screen, only occasionally showing the time.

Despite the fact that I couldn't connect this radio to my car to play my door chimes, it still has an annoying beep of it's own when I turn off the car. If you leave the faceplate on when you turn off your car, the radio will beep a few times, reminding you that "HEY! Somebody might want to STEAL ME!!!"

I've yet to have any mechanical or electrical problems with this player... it's really sturdy and compact. It's incredibly easy to set, even whilst driving.

Skipping I only notice when I'm going down my gravel road, or when I go over noticeably large bumps. But skippage is also reliant on the player's mounting in the car, and the car's shocks, so take that into account. It plays a lot of my badly scratched CD's that my regular stereo can't, which was a pleasant surprise.

All in all, I recommend this player to anyone on a tight budget, who wants durability and ease-of-use combined with good power.
