SONY CMT-NEZ5 - 20 watts vs CMT-NEZ3 10 Watts - worth extra $$

Pros Compact, Stylish, priced reasonable if on sale, plays MP3s, even has a cassette.
Cons Slow loading for MP3s, lacks deep bass in open area
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Nice stylish compact componet stereo at reasonable price. MP3 playback is a key feature!
Since there is no category for the CMT-NEZ5 I have included it in the CMT-NEZ3 category. I believe the Z5 is only available in Canada & Europe and not in the US.

Bought mine at best buy during the after christmas boxing day sales in Canada. Good deal. Cost $129 from $199 Cdn. The Z3 was on sale for $99. Definitely worth the extra $30 for the upgraded model. Difference being wood coloured speakers and black speaker cover, DBX bass control, and MP3 + - buttons on the front, and a few extra wholes in the back of the speaker. Of course the most crutial difference is 20 watts per channel versus 10 watts per channel on the Z3. Otherwise pretty much the same look/unit.

The sound is crisp and clear. Of course lack the bass of a real stereo given it's size and price but acceptable for a room. What i found by accident was if the unit is housed in a bookcase or entertainment unit, the bass from the speakers really come out. Like upgrading speakers for free. Same concept as speakers in a car as the trunk acts as a great housing for the bass.

Comes with a mini remote which is great and even a display clock on the front panel so can be a clock & radio if you need the space.

The beauty of this machine is that it can play MP3s so you don't need a CD changer. One flaw is the time it takes to load an MP3 disc as it has to read all the folders so it takes maybe 15 seconds vs a normal CD or CDR

All in all a good little machine for the price.

Looks good and acceptable sound at an ok price.
