The Bottom Line:
This thing is great. It's compact, stylish, holds a ton of music, and costs nothing compared to mp3 players.
I just got the sony d-ne710 after much research in the field of mp3/cd players. It's the best bargain I found as its only 100$. Sony products are generally very reliable and have good sound quality and all that, and that was the same for this model.
The first thing I noticed about it was how slim and stylish it is. Ofcourse its not as small as an Ipod or other mp3 players but in my opinion the problems with mp3 players haven't really been worked out yet. The software it comes with is amazing. I thought it would be very intimidating and time-consuming before I installed it and realized how easy it is. It takes seconds to rip a cd album onto it then it puts in on the atrac cd. It really does hold hundreds of songs at great quality. At the best quality, I made a cd with 21 albums on it, something like 250 songs. If you don't care about having cd quality you can hold 490 like it advertizes but that doesn't work for me. It's still amazing that I can consolidate half my music collection into one or two cds and carry it around with me in something the size of one cd.
The only cons I've found so far are minor things really. The first is that there is a little more space between tracks for reasons I have no idea. Its something like 3 seconds between tracks so for albums that flow together it sort of messes it up. But generally this doesn't matter, with bands like the beatles who's songs are independent for each other. But this is just a minor kink which you get used to really fast. The other is that on the display of the player in the menus to show your groups it only shows the first 7 letters so you can't see the whole title. But this also doesnt really matter.
This is a great product if you're looking for value for your money. This beats any mp3 player thats for sure. I recomend this to anyone looking to consilidate their music collection into one litte circle.
