Great replacement for a failed unit
Pros
Very cheap (for me anyways) as it was a warranty replacement.
Cons
Few output options.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A good starter or upgrade system, will work for well against like priced units.
First, this system was acquired due to the failure of a previous Sony model, which fortunately for me, was covered by an extended service plan by Best Buy.
Not sure if I would have bought this particular unit if I was in the market for a new one, but now that it has been working for 6 months, I like it and it satisfies our family.
Sound - The unit gets loud enough for our family and our large living room, and it has all the requisite inputs that we need, but is light on the outputs. Future expansion may be difficult with this unit, if you need more than the basics, go with a receiver. Surround sound was great, so are the various presets.
DVD Player - My previous unit had a 5 disk changer, through a single slot, which took at least 30 seconds to change from one DVD to the next. This unit has a 5-tray arrangement, which shuffles from one DVD to the next in about 8 seconds, a vast improvement. The player upconverts to near HD quality, which is also an improvement over the unit it replaced.
Video output - This is where the unit is weak, has only single video output for HD. Would like more options, but that is ok.
