bylllopez Feb 24, 2009

Pros Simplicity, Functionality
Cons Poorly Written Manual
Recommended it? Yes

One piece of advice that I took to heart years ago, was to get lots of pictures of your family. That wasn't such a stretch as I have had a passion for photography as long as I can remember, which made the transition to video a seamless exercise. I remember my first video shoot was a kindergarten... Read full review »

Simplified Home Movie Transfer

byericfrey Jan 16, 2007
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Easy to use. Requires no computer. Variety of DVD formats.
Cons No audio output. DVD+R DL media sensitivity. Scene information doesn't transfer.
Recommended it? Yes

I got this as a Christmas present to transfer my collection of home movies on DVD and Hi8 tapes to DVD so they would be easier to watch and edit. I have the capability to do this on one of my PCs, but it is somewhat painful as there are 3 steps involved (read from CD, encode as MPEG, and burn DVD)... Read full review »

Pros Portable and small.
Cons For DV recording, no dv-dv cable included.
Recommended it? Yes

Bought one for Christmas.Made about 10 coasters. All w/ the error of "Failed to format" or "Failed to finalize." Used several brands of DVD +R's (TDK, Fuji, Sony, Phillips,etc..)

Finally, I grew frustrated and returned it. The next one worked like a charm. Has burned everything just fine... Read full review »

Pros Really easy to use
Cons I wish it could tie into my home network.
Recommended it? Yes

This is the DVD burner that I have always wanted but no one offered it. I bought one for my family (me) last week. Ever since I have been converting all of my DV tapes and VHS tapes to DVD. This is so easy to use. I already showed my 8 year old son how to burn discs. Thank you Sony. I hate having... Read full review »

Cons Don't try copy protected materials Minimal Menu capability in direct setup
Recommended it? Yes

I have been very pleased with my DVDirect. It has been getting very heavy usage for the past 2 weeks since I am converting my video collection to DVD. It has performed flawlessly. The only "problems" I've had turned out to be my fault (I had some movie inserts in a couple of my home videos and they... Read full review »

Disappointed I don't own a Sony "HandyCam"

bytawb Mar 6, 2007
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Don't need a PC.
Cons Only works as advertised with top of the line Sony camcorders.
Recommended it? No

Because if I did, I could hook it up to the USB Jack and it might work. As it is, it won't recognize my USB connection from my JVC-HDD camcorder when I plug it into the USB (handycam) slot. But it will accept the A/V input, from my JVC to the yellow/white/red input. It accepted my S-Video... Read full review »

Pros video to DVD works great. also works well for backups to DVD.
Cons broken flash reader - doesn't support 2GB SD!
Recommended it? No

Like most people who purchased the VRD-MC3, my main purpose was to migrate all of my family videos from tape to DVD. Fortunately, this worked very well and I've been very happy with the results. However, one of the reasons I picked the VRD-MC3, rather than the less expensive VRD-MC1, was because... Read full review »

I bought the Sony DVDirect MC3 in March 2008 and so far have had no problems what so ever. The burner works as promised and as per spec. I have not had a single faulty DVD yet - converted 60 tapes so far and have got predictable good quality DVDs. No need for the computer or any messy DVD editing... Read full review »

It almost works

bydsziede Apr 16, 2007
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Works fine for standard TVs.
Cons Wrong aspect ratio displaying standard video on a HDTV.
Recommended it? No

Mine gets returned as "don't work." Yes it records, but I can't persuade it to record in the right aspect ratio. My Sony PC120BT miniDV camera shoots standard TV - 4:3. When I burn a DVD from my Mini DV, and play it on my HDTV, it is stretched to HDTV aspect - 16:9.

Of course, Sony... Read full review »

A Dependable Way to Transfer Tapes onto DVD

4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Ease of use, decent picture quality, dependable
Cons No audio; no way to skip having a menu and just autoplaying the DVD
Recommended it? Yes

Finally, a way to bypass the PC for making transfers from tape to DVD. This product has helped me get going on my plans to get my VHS tapes onto a DVD, without all of the complications associated with encoding, dropped frames, etc. that my PC and software was giving me. I haven't had any problems... Read full review »
