I love it!!!!
Pros
looks, colour screen, earphones, sound quality, battery life, video playback, graphic equaliser
Cons
no AC adapter supplied, packaging looked cheap
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy to use, reliable mp3 player with a long battery life, chic looks and video playback.
I bought this mp3 player as a replacement for my old Sony mp3 player (a Sony NW-S703F 1gb player with noise cancelling) and am absolutely convinced that I made the right decision in choosing this.
If I'm brutally honest, I didn't particularly like the packaging that it came in. My previous 2 Sony mp3 players (NW-A1000 and NW-S703F)both came in shiny dark purple boxes, which gave a sense of quality before you even opened the box. This on the other hand came in what can only be described as cheap packing, and I was not at all impressed...that was until I opened the box!
Using the player is really quite simple, and the controls are very straightforward to use, and navigating back and forth through the menus is just a dream. As well as standard navigation, the player also uses its colour screen to full advantage and allows you to search by album artwork, as well as providing crisp, high quality video playback.
A lot of people complain about Sony's SonicStage software that used be a requirement to transfer music to Sony players. Personally I never had any problems with using it, but for this player Sony has done away with it completely. Transfer to and from the player can be done by synchronising the player with 'Windows Media Player' (though I've tried Winamp and that works too). If that seems like too much hassle then despair not! You can also transfer music, photos and videos to the player by simple drag and drop! In under 5 minutes I had about 20 albums on the player!
This player can play mp3 files, display jpeg photos and video support is mp4. This is a bit of a down side for those that liked to use Sony's own atrac file format for music compression, but it shouldn't discourage you from buying this player at all.
The earphones supplied with the unit may look like some medieval torture device, but not only are they really comfortable but the sound quality is amazing too. Once you've used earphones like these you will not want to go back to using normal ones. The player also features a graphic equaliser with heavy/pop/jazz/unique presets as well as 2 customisable settings. It also has what it calls [VPT (Surround)] which allows you to make it sound like studio/live/club/arena/matrix/kareoke settings (though I don't use any of these other than the 'heavy' equaliser setting).
The battery life is great too. Since I've had the player (about 3 weeks) I only charged it completely on the first day, and the only other time it's been connected is for about 10 minutes here and there to transfer some more music to the unit. I use the player for 3-4 hours daily so the battery life has been close to the stated 33 hours per charge.
Why did I buy it?
Looks, Sony reliability, high quality colour screen, video playback
What do I love about it?
Pretty much everything
What do I hate?
The fact that I have to charge it from my computer as no AC adapter is supplied with it
