Fast but noisy
Pros
Fast. Quiet platter for high spin rate.
Cons
Loud armature noise.
Recommended it?
Yes
The speed of this drive is impressive. While it has a SATA 150 interface, because of the halved latencies it appears to be about as fast as a SATA 300 pair in RAID 0. However, that seek-time reduction comes at a price. Because it has to rack the armature faster it makes more seeking noise. The platter itself is quiet despite the 10,000-rpm spin rate, not making any whining or whirring sound except on spin-up. But the armature can sound like a little hammer banging on the inside of your case trying to get out; or like someone is touch-typing on a manual typewriter in the other room (for those of you old enough to have experienced that). I replaced it with a pair of 7200-rpm WD5000AAKS SATA 300 drives in RAID 0 (flat striped, no error correction), which barely tick while seeking and give about the same experience of speed. If these were quieter, I'd have bought another, put them in RAID 0, and marvelled at the speed. If I were building a server in another room, I'd do that, too.
