Steiner makes EXCELLENT optics, as do many manufacturers, but their "night hunter" series give the illusion that they have included a night vision system such as the an/pvs series of real gen II or gen III true image intensified night vision.
What steiner is doing is simply making the best optics available with coated lenses for phenominal light transmission. Canon does the same thing but does not give the illusion of night vision. Canon does however offer the image stabilization feature and also coated optics with excellent night performance. For the price / performance the canon image stabilized (gyros spinning on the prisims) offers a much more useful product with 50 mm objective lenses that are as bright at night and stable as well.
Given the price range I would recommend the canon 15x50 image stabilized units - at night they are wonderful and lack the jitter of a normal 15 power handheld set of glasses which you are stuck with on the steiner units. The canon 15x50's run for hours on 2 AA rechargable batteries
