Steiner Safari 8X30 For hunting
Pros
Use:Alpine Hunting Excellent clarity. Easy on eyes.Compares with other German optics 3X price.
Cons
Focus adjustment too loose. External condensation in eyecups in wet/humid conditions.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Recommend them. Easy to use, clear and lightweight. Rubber coating is strong. Very waterproof. Focus adjustment is too loose, but I can live with that given excellent clarity.
Have owned these Binoculars for 8 months now and had ample opportunity to give a good field test.
Price was around NZD$400.00 (USD$175)
I would rate them in the same league as Swarovski and Leica equivalent for clarity and ease of use.
Have used them mainly for spotting game animals over a distance of 1-2 kilometres, and found them excellent.
Also have performed well in low light conditions.
Only bad feature is the eyecup focus adjustment, which is quite loose and requires constant adjustment/resetting.
The eyecups fit my eyes very well, and are very comfortable.
I find I can glass for long periods of time (eg 1 hour.) without getting a giddy feeling that you get with some other brands.
Recently I used them on a trip to Fiordland. (Very wet/humid conditions.) found that I got quite a bit of condensation on the lens within the eyecups (External.) and had to use tissues constantly to clear.
The rubber body is robust and has to date showed no scratches despite use in very rugged terrain.
I'm very happy with them.
