The Bottom Line:
Recommended. Easy to use. If you've never had a GPS you will love this unit. More expensive models offer even more features if you are willing to spend the money.
I recently was in the market to buy a GPS because I had seen how easy they made navigation verses printed internet directions. I was going to get the Garmin i3 but found the StreetPilot C320 for the amazing price of $370 at Costco. $422 was the grand total after taxes, non-member fee and shipping. Still much cheaper than many other places.
This unit is extremely simple to use. Garmin has defiantly made this unit almost dummy proof. I had the unit up and going in just a few minutes. Loading the software and data did take a little while. But overall very simple setup and the data loading is very easy as well. The only thing I don't like about the software is that it seems to be a stripped down version. I don't see anyway to load specific regions, so I have to load entire states. Kind of unnecessary but not that big of a deal.
The unit comes with a 128MB SB card. This will hold about 3 average size states data. The card is supposed to be upgradeable and I have read online it can go up to the 2 gig cards but can not verify that for sure. For most people 128 MB should be enough if you stay in the same general area most of the time.
The screen is touchscreen. It is a little hard to see in the day but not too bad. You can get anti glare screens for the unit. The touchscreen makes for very fast selections.
The unit comes with a windshield mount which I have found so far to work very well. It attaches very tight and only fell off once so far. I think this is because I did press hard enough when mounting it.
As far as navigation...
So far route calculations are fast and accurate. The voice prompts are loud and easy to understand. It doesn't read the street names. You'll have to spend more if you want that feature. The screen is large and text is easy to read at a glance. Had some problems where you may not get a lot of warning about a turn. But for the most part you should have plenty of time because you are usually given a .3 mile warning and a 400-500 ft warning.
When you get off route the re-calculation is fast. Faster than the neverlost system I have used.
Overall very very easy to use. Your grandmother could use it and I'm sure she would love the ability to easily navigate around and not worry about getting lost.
