No more Sylvania for me

Pros The size, style, picture quality and ease of use was wonderful... while it lasted.
Cons Dealing with this company is the ultimate consumer nightmare.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I wouldn't recommend this tv at ANY price. The warranty is basically a piece of paper and the customer service if you have a problem is pretty much non-existent.
I purchased this tv at a black friday sale in 2007 for $799 and tax... I waited in line all night to guarantee getting one of the 16 available. The price, the wall mount option and the Sylvania name was what I based my purchase on. I had to purchase the wall mount suggested by Sylvania so as not to risk voiding the warranty should anything happen. The mount was $200. I was very pleased with the performance of this tv, the picture was great, it was easy to use and the sound quality was good enough for the small house I have. On day 37 of using this tv, it would not power on and stay on... it kept shutting itself down. I tried all of the troubleshooting options and nothing worked. I called the company and gave them the information. They told me once the warranty was verified, they would contact me. After 3 weeks, I called again. The rep said he would put an alert on my claim and I would be called back. Another three weeks passed and I called again. I told the company that I was paying a premium for cable and had no tv to watch and I would not settle for a promise to call me back. The rep suggested putting an alert on my claim to speed things up. I told him an alert was put on my claim 3 weeks ago. Again I was promised someone would return my call. It didn't happen. A couple of weeks passed, and UPS delivered a Sylvania box to return my tv. No instructions, no address, nothing. Again I called the company. They said they would send a carrier out to pick up the tv. Another month passed. I called again and was told that the recent holiday put them behind. I reminded the rep that this tv has been in processing for MONTHS and it was time to clear this up. After another couple of weeks, a courier picked up the tv. After 5 weeks, I get a call stating the tv cannot be fixed and my purchase price (without tax) would be returned. I told the rep how unhappy I was with Sylvania and that the tax was necessary for me to pay to purchase the tv. The company finally ended this ordeal with a check for the tv (including tax) in February of 2007. Yes, it really did take that long to resolve this matter.
