The Bottom Line:
Definite BUY, ease of use and price.
Have read the other reviews and have had none of the problems other folks experienced. I have had this machine for two months and have transferred over twenty VHS tapes to DVD. The only coasters that I have made (2) were my own fault, forgetting to set the time required for a particular movie and running out of space. My DVD recorder was bought from FRY's on close-out for the almost unbelievable price of $99.99. It apparently is an upgraded "E" model since it has recorded 2x and 8x disc's from Imation, Comp USA house brand, and GQ which is FRY's house brand. I have had excellent results with ALL of them. The only criticism I might have is clarity of the owners manual. After I deciphered the instructions I found recording VHS to DVD (the reason I purchased it) to be an extremely easy one button operation after setting the time required for recording a particular tape.
All in all, I can't remember when I have been so completely satisfied with a purchase. Record and playback quality are both very good. I just hope, after raving about this unit so much, that I don't start experiencing the mechanical problems reported by others. Currently my unit operates very smoothly from a mechanical standpoint.
When copying copyright protected tapes I use an external vcr with a GODVD! CT-200 between the units. I figure if I own the tape I can make a copy for my own use!!!
