As tube tv's are all but obsolete, I looked at 720p tv's as they are now affordable.
The largest TV that fits in my entertainment center is 32 inches. At a warehouse club this Sylvania caught my eye.
Hooking it up was easy. The instructions were clear and all cables were color-coded. It was up and running within 15 minutes.
The picture is very clear and sharp. There are multiple modes for both picture and sound .One of the picture modes is for "cinema" which fills the entire screen. One of the sound modes is for "surround sound" which I have left off because I live in an apartment and think it may be too loud for the neighbors.
The dvd player is basic but easy to use. Simply pop a dvd in the bottom center of the tv,and it automatically starts.easy enough.
Note to those considering getting a hi-def tv- I have discovered that the quality of the cable or satellite system has a major impact on the quality of the picture. My set required a reprogramming of the hd-box to obtain optimal picture quality.
