Superb image quality -- AWFUL HUMMING SOUND!

Pros Great image quality, amazing price.
Cons Continuous, headache-inducing, high-pitched hum, awful menu/remote system.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  If using ONLY with a home theatre system, bypassing the internal audio system, then this is a great buy. Otherwise, if you can hear the humming, NO WAY.
The Olevias are so much cheaper than just about any of the "Big Names" but seem to have great image quality, so I figured why not give them a shot?

Sure enough, the picture quality was fantastic -- to my eyes, as good as S**y, P***sonic, etc. In fact, the local electronics store where I bought mine had this unit right next to a S**y unit that was exactly twice as expensive -- and the image quality looked identical. Over-the-air HD was stunning; subjectively speaking, colors looked natural, the screen was bright, viewing angle was good and I noticed no ghosting or other image artifacts. Component-based DVDs were similarly impressive. My only complaint with the image quality, perhaps, is the contrast range; blacks were not quite as black as on the "higher-dollar" units, but certainly good enough -- especially at this price.

However, when playing audio through the speakers, there was this continuous, headache-inducing, high-pitched hum that my wife and I found simply unbearable.

I've since seen various other complaints on-line about this issue, so I'm not alone, and this is not an isolated defect. Maybe the pitch is high enough that older folks don't hear it?

Also, like everyone says, the menu system and remote are horrific -- but would have been livable had it not been for the infernal humming.
