Excellent value for money

Cost, Cost, Oh, did I mention COST!

Fixed Speakers, No Discrete IR Codes, Black Levels

Yes
The Bottom Line:
An excellent TV for the amount I paid (less than $1000 after rebate). I don't think I'd pick this set over some of its competition at full price ($1900).
I picked up a LT37HVS on Black Friday 2005 (Day after thanksgiving) for $999 after a $300 rebate (which as of today - 2/2/06) I have not yet received.
On the whole I'm delighted with the set (given the price) and HD Cable looks excellent. However Standard and even digital cable has a soft look which is not as good as the 27" TV it replaced. Fortunately most shows I watch are available in HD (or upconverted to HD format). If viewed from a distance (10+' feet) this softness is not too bad. DVDs play fine through the component inputs.
I've connected a PC to the VGA, and it works well but the 1366x768 is not a standard PC resolution which means I've yet to get the text as crisp as I'd like.
The main issues (other than the picture quality on standard definition) are as follows:
1. Fixed speakers - I use a surround amp and it would be nice to remove the standard speakers.
2. Poor black level - Which is common to most LCD TVs
3. Over the air HD tuner needs a good aerial input (which I don't have) to pick up anything at all.
4. No discrete IR codes - this meens switching from Cable to TiVo to DVD requires many presses of a number of source buttons). I managed to automate the change on my MX-500 remote using the following sequences (with small delays):
Cable (Component 1) - 'VGA/HDMI' followed by 'Component'
Tivo (S-Video 1) - 'VGA/HDMI' followed by 4x 'TV/VIDEO'
DVD (Component 2) - 'VGA/HDMI' followed by 2x 'Component'
VCR (Video 1) - 'VGA/HDMI' followed by 2x 'TV/VIDEO'
I've yet to find a reliable way of switching on/off the TV so this requires manual intervention.
5. The front of the TV looks a little plasticy.
It may seem like I'm a little hard on the LT37HVS, but I am very happy with the unit - as long as I get my rebate!
