The Bottom Line:
If you want to move up to HDTV, the 537H is a very good choice for someone who is in the market for a 37" set.
This LCD TV has many of the features the more expensive sets have. You get HDMI and PC connections in addition to the typical S-video, cable, and composite connections. This TV has a 1360x768 resolution, 178 degree viewing angle, 8ms response time, and 1600:1 contrast ratio. The LCD screen is made by LG and is very good. If you do a side by side comparison of this set vs. say a $ONY TV you will see a better picture on the 537H. The speakers a attached and located below the screen. Sound quality is good. The on screen menu is a little strange but fairly easy to navigate once you get use to it. The 537H has a built in HD tuner. It displays HD stations great and does an excellent job of displaying standard signal content. Displaying standard content this good makes this set a leader in my opinion. The software that drives this TV can be upgraded via a USB connection. This is something the other more expensive TVs lack. The startup time for the 537H is about 10 sec. This is a little long but once your on who cares? I think the long startup is due to the software driven nature of this set.
I have used this set for 3 months and I think it has been a great entertainment investment. Watching DVDs, standard TV. and HDTV has been great with this set. The remote is a universal remote but I use a learning universal remote to control my system. Standard universal remotes do not have codes for this set so you should invest in a good learning remote and store the factory remote for future teaching of other universal remotes.
This set is relatively cheap for what you get. I am very satisfied. I was able to get the 537H for $650 after a $50 rebate. Great deal for this set.
