The Bottom Line:
Overall, a great PDA phone!
The new T-Mobile Wing is an updated version of the MDA (the sister phone to the Cingular 8125).
Once a proud owner of the Cingular 8125, I've just updated to the T-Mobile Wing and I'm loving it! It packs many of the features of the Cingular model that I loved and has added a few more!
What I use most:
Notes - you can hand write notes using the stylus
Outlook - sync with my pc keeps me on time with appointment and things I need to do
Camera - great camera for a phone. 2 megapixel plus you can take some amazing video!
Slide-out keyboard - I'm a texter, not a talker so I love the slide-out qwerty keyboard for that!
Applications - Can read ebooks with Word or Adobe Reader.
Games - There are a TON of games you can purchase for a reasonable price as well as lots you can download for free online. My personal fave (of the moment) is Kevtris, a version of Tetris that is addicting!
Wi-Fi - Access the internet without having to purchase a data plan anywhere free wi-fi is available. Its nice to be having a smoke break at the office and log into my Squidoo account from my phone!
Overall, I am happy with my upgrade. The new OS seems to be pretty good. The wi-fi connection seems to go faster as well! However, there are a few things about it I'm not too happy with...
The Color - I'm not a blue person. I like black or silver.
Keyboard orientation - The keyboard slides out on the right side instead of the left which makes accessing the stylus cumbersome while the keyboard is out.
Sleeker - I know this should be a plus but all of the side buttons are so small and "sleek" that they are hard to find. The stylus is just a small bump so you have to know where to look to find it. All of the data connections, memory card slot, etc are covered with a rubber cap now so in order to charge or sync, you have to remove the cap.
So now that I've said the "cons" how about the pros? There are quite a few things about it that have changed that I do like...
The rubberized grip - Makes it easier to hang on to. I can't tell you the amount of times the Cingular 8125 has slipped out of my hand. Its not really rubber but its got this coating that helps you hang on.
Slightly smaller size - Fits better in my hand, my pocket and my purse
Windows Office Mobile - Excel, PowerPoint and Word right there on your phone!
Sleeker - I know I just said I didn't like it but it does look cooler.
Overall, its just a great phone. Of course, this isn't the phone or PDA for everyone. If you won't use the extra features like syncing with your computer or the wi-fi, its definately not worth the hefty price tag ($300.00 after rebates). However, if you do like those features, the Wing is a great option. Everywhere I go, people ask me what kind of phone it is...
There are a few other things worth mentioning:
The touch screen - Sometimes, you can call someone or enter into a menu without meaning to unless you lock your phone every time before you put it into your purse or pocket. Also, during calls, it is easy to mute or put your call on hold without meaning to. It is meant to be used with a Bluetooth headset.
The size - as far as PDA phones go, its pretty much the same size of them all. Before getting the Cingular 8125, I was using the Razr and its an adjustment moving up to a big girl phone.
Accessories - Finding accessories can be a challenge. The T-Mobile store has a limited selection and the other cell phone stores seem to cater to Razrs and things of that nature more than they do to PDA phones. If you want something more than just a case or a screen protector, you'll need to shop online.
