TDK Mojo's got some MOJO!!!!
Pros
Great Mobility & Functionality, LCD Backlit Display with Artist/Title!! Great for the car!!
Cons
Battery Juice (Invest in Rechargables) A bit bulky,
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you're looking to take that first step into the brave new world of portable MP3 music, I highly recommend the TDK Mojo, without any doubts!!
After months of scrutinizing work in trying to find a portable mp3 player, I found the TDK Mojo. I couldn't be happier with it. I bought mine online for well under the list price (thanks to a rebate). I basically wanted an mp3 player that I could take in my car (my girlfriend and I love long road trips!!) The mojo gives you the option of grabbing a few cds when you're in a rush to get in the car, or make a perfectly mixed mp3 cd to take with you for a long drive through the country. The software takes a few minutes to get the hang of, and you will need to convert to TDK's FIF Format for Artist and Song Titles to display (although I've heard this isn't necessary.) FIF lets you further categorize your music into different genres, thus allowing you to play only the Rock music on your mp3 cd, or listen randomly to your Pop, Rock, Reggae and Hip Hop. I prefer the FIF format - I'm anal about my music categories!!
The player will still allow random play between folders without FIF (haven't tried it yet though)
The Mojo worked great in the car. I gave it a test in my 98 VW Golf ( which has some pretty stiff suspension to begin with) along some of the worst roads in Massachusetts (Route 99 and Downtown Boston (Big Dig Project) Roads to any who are familiar!!) Never skipped once.
The line out feature allows mojo to become a great home audio component for small homes and apartments. I don't get much from the Bass Boost feature, but, nonetheless, the Mojo cranked some great music through my Home theater system. Mojo comes with a DC plug for wall outlets . .
I like the headphones that were included. They're kind of ergonomic, but took getting some use to. The batteries will drain with constant use (approximately 9-10 hours straight), so I've invested in some Radio Shack rechargables
and a DC adapter for my car.
I have yet to give it an 'urban assault' test with hiking or city walking. I'd love to see how the mojo works when I'm mountain biking as well.
The mojo takes a few seconds to scan the disk before playing, not a big deal for me . . . It's not much bigger than any portable cd player on the market. I comparison shopped between this and the Nomad Jukebox. While jukebox seems great, I thought that the mojo gave more versatility to me to stay lazy and still play cds.
