Great little machine!
Pros
Good Price, Great Quality/Durability
Cons
None that I can think of
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Easily worth the money spent on it, especially since it wasn't my money! ;) But really, I would easily purchase another Toshiba SD-P1600 should this one ever fail us.
My girlfriend bought this on special about a year and a half ago. I am not sure the exact amount she paid, I'm guessing between $100-$150 probably probably right in middle there.
I work mostly third shifts at work and needed something to keep me company during the slow times. I borrowed this 10 months ago and have put it to use! Never one problem with it, always fires right up and has never skipped once! That's more than I can say for several of the DVD players I have purchased for home use.
The initial start up and when you push "stop" are the only times when the sound level of the machine is a little high. It's not annoying and doesn't sound like something is wrong with it like I have had with other CD/DVD rom drives before. Other than that, it is quite as can be.
The sound seems completely fine to me - I have read reviews stating "lack of features" and "sound quality" as Cons for this product to which I argue. This is a portable DVD player. It doesn't need the features of a home DVD player - that is why you buy a DVD player designed for your home. It has AV in/AV out lines so if you happened to be in a hotel and wanted to watch a DVD you certainly could. The sound quality is fine, you can't have too high of expectations for speakers that are only 1/2 inch or less in diameter.
I have not taken this product in the car for a road trip yet, but from reading other reviews - I am sure it performs very well there too.
After the unit runs for about 5-6 hours straight it feels a little warm, not dangerously hot, just a little warm. It's always worked though and never skipped.
